This major work is an analytical and exhaustive
commentary on the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, (Act
14 of 1946) with a commentary on cases decided in
the early days of the Act’s existence up to May 2010,
Central & State Rules, The Industrial Employment
Standing Orders Act, Rules, Model Standing Orders
and other related Acts and Rules. The author has also
examined relevant decisions under the law as it existed
before the 1947 Act.
In the last decade, the law on industrial disputes has
undergone substantial change, it can even be said
that it has been significantly diluted by the law laid
down by the Supreme Court, particularly in respect
of regularization of daily wagers/ casual employees/
temporary employees and ad hoc employees.
The author has arranged the material in such a way
that the reader is provided easy access to all shades of
judicial opinion and is further assisted in locating the
current judicial views and statutory law.
The case law on each section and every significant
sub-section has been arranged under headings and
sub-headings which are numbered and placed under a
synopsis to facilitate the reader’s search of law on the
topic of his interest.
